Orbital is a new firm that emerged from a16z’s startup accelerator program Speedrun. The company aims to build space data centers for AI inference, betting on SpaceX’s Starship rocket for deployment. It plans a demo flight with an Nvidia Blackwell chip and hopes to launch its first data-processing spacecraft in 2028, eventually deploying 10,000 satellites for distributed computing power.
